Tom McFarlane has always been involved in photography, but
with the arrival of high resolution digital photography over the past few
years, and more importantly, a high quality and archival means of printing
digital images, his interest and productivity have grown.
"The immediacy of digital imaging has changed everything. It gives me the ability to shoot and see the results instantaneously," McFarlane stated. "And with Photoshop, I have the ability to refine the images in ways that were impossible using the conventional darkroom." In the four short years since getting back to photography, his work began to win numerous awards, and he is being shown |
in several galleries around the country.
He had his first solo exhibition in February 2004, when "56
Recent Photographs" opened at Indiana
University East. This was followed in August 2005 with a one man show,
"Union Terminal - 30 Recent Images",
at the Eine Kleine Gallery in Covington, Kentucky.
After earning a BFA in printmaking from Miami University, McFarlane opened a graphic design /photography studio in Chicago. Later he returned to southwest Ohio to teach photography and now owns a publishing company in Cincinnati. |
